The 80th Birthday Celebrations of Hymavathi Devi were held at Jillellamudi on 14th November, 2022.

The number 80 is a count only for academics. Hyma’s age was frozen at 25 when the Divinity of Hyma was declared to the world through Amma on 6th April, 1968, after she consecrated the mortal remains of Hyma in Hymalayam. It is said that the age of three crore number of Gods is stable at 30. Their age will never grow. They never get old. That is why they are called Tridashas, meaning thirty in Sanskrit. Similarly, Hyma is Nitya Kanyakumari. She is Bala Tripura Sundari, being the offspring of Divine Mother.

Now, the question is how Hyma is Divine?

In reply, the question is shot back – What is Divinity?

Divinity was defined as “nothing but sympathetic vibration to others suffering.” This was amply evident in Hyma. In fact, it was Her nature. Her tolerance was great when it comes to her own suffering, but when she sees any little suffering of others, she was ready to do anything to alleviate the same. The glaring example was the case of Sri Ekkirala Bharadwaja, now revered as Divine Guru by the followers of Sai Baba. In his spiritual quest, he used to visit Amma in his early days and stayed in Jillellamudi for a long time. He wrote many articles and books on Amma. He lost his mother in his childhood. Hyma recognized this vacuum in his life and was moved so much that she wanted to fill this vacuum. He was overwhelmed and literally melted in the motherly love and affection received through Hyma. On the day Hyma left her body, he deplored that “I lost my mother for the second time in my life.”

To cite another captivating example, once Sri Rajupalepul Seshagiri Rao and his mother both were severely infected with Smallpox, a deadly disease. Doctors were helpless. They were on the verge of death. On hearing this, Hyma ran to Amma and clinging to Her feet beseeched for their life. Amma was immensely pleased at this “sympathetic vibration” and granted Life to them. Both were saved!! Hyma was the symbol of unselfish path and service.

Her Love and Sympathy were not confined to humans alone. She identified herself with the nature around. The Divine quality is described as wishing well of all living beings in the nature. Lord Rama was described in Ramayana as the one who wishes the well being of all. “Sarvabhoota Hiteshu…..” was one unique quality of Lord Rama.

She was tender and delicate not only in her heart, but in her physical frame, talk and behaviour. She was manifestation of heavenly charm and elegance! There were certain obvious instances during which Amma revealed the Divinity of Hyma sometimes directly and sometimes impliedly when Hyma was in flesh and blood.

Once Dr. Potturi Venkateswara Rao, renowned journalist and writer remarked to Amma that when Hyma walks, it is like the movement of Devatas. So celestial were her movements.

Swamy Vivekananda said “Every soul is potentially Divine. The goal is to manifest this Divinity within by controlling nature, external and internal.” Hyma was never interested in worldly comforts and she realized Amma’s Divinity in her early years and yearned to merge in Amma. Hyma was born as an ordinary human and elevated herself to the mystic Divine stature. A lover of Truth, Hyma stands an example for spiritual aspiration, spiritual pursuit and Goal.

She used to recite Lalita Sahasram, the thousand names of Divine Mother Lalita, almost continuously with absolute devotion and concentration. It was stated in Brahmanda Puranam that one who practices Lalita Sahasram as above, will manifest ultimately as Lalita Parameswari. Hyma is just that.

AMMA offered Hyma to the world as the one who shows the path to attain “Advaitha Siddhi”, the supreme non-dualistic state.

Hyma’s marble image was installed in Hymalayam, the temple of Hyma in Jillellamudi, where everyday Ekadasa Rudrabhishekam with Mahanyasam is performed and Puja with Lalita Sahasranamam, Trishathi, Khadgamala and Ashtothara shatam.

It is the experience of many devotees that those who wish to fulfil their worldly or spiritual desires get full results when they perform Abhishekam to Hyma for eleven days or recite Lalital Sahasram eleven times every day for 41 days.

Lalita Koti Nama Parayana (reciting of Lalita Sahasram ten thousand times makes it one crore) is conducted in Jillellamudi on the birthday of Hyma every year in Jillellamudi, which, itself is a unique event. This is being conducted for the last four decades almost without fail. On the occasion of Hyma’s 80th birthday this year on 14th November, Lalita Koti Nama parayana was successfully and enthusiastically conducted with the participation of more than 3000 visitors.

Hymalayam is a “must visit” place for every spiritual seeker. Sree Viswajananee Parishat Temples Trust and SVJP Trust. provide all necessary facilities and arrangements to the visitors without charging any fees.
