AMMA is pronounced, “MINE is a state of knowing and unknowing too”. To paraphrase the same in HER inimitable vemacular, “Naadi Telisi Teliyani Stithi ”. The intrinsic truth is that AMMA is in a state of constant cosmic awareness. Given such a state there is nothing that is unknown, if turned to nor is there a known or mere brother of all the mundane trivialities. All that is needed is known now or point of time.
For that matter AMMAis never formally taught, attended a school, nor learnt from anyone else. Ever since the advent SHE is in a state of total awareness and complete knowing. HER mastery of language and singular diction with utmost brevity and unfathomed profundity baffled all the scholars and savants who neared HER
Even so, granting such an exalted state, AMMA reckoned education as the basic need for the individual in life, as also to make a living for himself. AMMA was deeply concerned with educating the poor and needy who otherwise cannot afford or do not have access to formal education. This prompted the genesis of the MATRUSRI VIDYA PARISHAT by AMMA’S benign grace. The Vidya Parishat propounded the Matrusri Oriental College at Jillellamudi, the instrument and medium of education and learning of Oriental Languages in the year 1971.
This is largely an outcome of AMMA’S volition in the sense neither there was the resource, nor the men and material required at that point of time in the year 1971. Yet even before the inauguration of the said College, AMMA identified Brother Sri Pannala Radhakrishna Sarma as the Principal of the would be Oriental College at Jillellamudi. To the surprise of everyone present AMMA chose him to be the Principal as he was only a humble village school teacher then, not yet fully qualified or eligible for such a position.
Further at that moment there was no physical trace of the proposed College. Even so AMA’S volition actualized the same and Sri Pannala has become the Founder Principal of the Matrusri Oriental College, aided, rather ably supported by a dedicated, committed band of Faculty for the College. Later Brother Sri Pannala has improved the academic qualification and became Dr. Pannala Radhakrishna Sarma acquiring a Ph.D., in Adhyatma Ramayana. He also occupied other eminent positions in the outside world.
Quite in tune with AMMA’S method, the education is offered free of cost in this College. Students who joined our College are also offered free food, shelter, medical aid, and overall care. Students from humble and deprived backgrounds joined our College. Some are drawn here only because of the free facilities offered here while education is a secondary source. concern for such students.
In view of the resource constraint the College for the first few decades was run in thatched cottages in the campus of the Sri Viswajanani Parishat, the central parent organization that supports all this activity then as also now. Sparse interiors of these thatched cottages served as classes in the College timings, while being the secondary home, humble dwelling for the students beyond the class hours. Water supply is sustained by the small village tank run by the often unstable. rural electric power.
The odds were many. Constraints too countered. Scarcity of resources was also faced. Even so these were all overcome by the resolute will and determination of the forefathers as also all those committed to this cause of education. Above all, AMMA’S boundless grace fulfilled all the needs in a befitting manner.
The faculty of the College were placed on the campus with their humble abodes accommodated. Students hovered around the teachers as if they were their parental support. Pupils who joined with rustic accents and crude diction were transformed into urbane, educated persons. The ambience and the environs conveyed the impression of a ‘Gurukula’ in the bygone days of yore.
The students and the faculty sought AMMA’S grace every day. With AMMA’S GRACE, the efforts of the faculty and the diligence of the students yielded rich dividends. Awards were won. Accolades too followed. Our alumni besides recording academic excellence, gaining prime positions in the University Exams., also received prizes at the State and National levels in other disciplines. Some of our students also pursued further studies doing M.A., M.Phil and a few Ph.Ds. are well placed occupying coveted positions. Some have become recognized writers and authors.
We made glorious strides in this direction bypassing several milestones and now we are well poised at the historic landmark of the GOLDEN JUBILEE that is being celebrated in all fulfillment and well earned prestige over the decades. Today our students enjoy an enviable brand value. In the academic rankings our Matrusri Oriental College is perched at the prime position. That is even conveyed by the other academic authorities in the State.
In the course of this brilliant trail, we have also opened the Matrusri Sanskrit Pathshala on the same terms of free food, care, and all. It is thought desirable to run the School that offers the foundation in the Oriental languages before seeking admission into the College for graduation. Our School too has an excellent and outstanding track record in terms of academic performance.
Over the decades, there was an increasing admission of the Girl Students in our College with nearly 70% of the total strength or even more. To meet this situation, we are constructing an exclusive Hostel for the Girl Students which is nearing completion and the ground floor is ready as of now. Thus, we are serving the cause of the Girl Child, the laudable national objective.
All these decades, we have evolved our own concept of education that is specific and exclusive. Our students besides achieving academic excellence are also well integrated in their person. We put them through avenues of service, extra mural activities, devotional chantings, and all other values enshrined in our sacred heritage, the ancient Sanatana Dharma. Verily this schedule is well blended with modernity, much adaptable to contemporary living and overall efficiency.
For well over a decade, we have been imparting computer skills to our students so that they are computer savvy to cope up in the outside world along with others. Thus, our concept of education is unique in the sense that it is well integrated within, with internal enrichment, enough empowerment to meet the challenges outside.
While celebrating the Golden Jubilee we also need to focus on the changing ambience in the academic world outside. The Govt. support in terms of placements, staffing and salary support have been withdrawn for more than a decade. Replacements of retired, transferred staff are not being provided by the Govt. as before.
More and more, the expectations of the authorities are that we run the College and our academic bodies on our own resources not looking for any external funding or support from the Govt in whatever mode. This public policy is being progressively implemented and fully actualized as of now giving us the restricted choice of running on our own as unaided entity or totally surrendering to the Govt., for their complete ownership, control and conduct with all our assets and infrastructure painstakingly built over the years by our forefathers and the successive generations that preceded.
Though apparently a critical situation, this also affords the much valued opportunity to run our academic wings on our own with our values and well trusted, proven methods and mode. Here all our members of the fraternity inclined towards academics and committed to the cause of education as part and parcel of AMMA’S MISSION and MINISTRY shall come together, sustaining and well supporting our efforts through men, means and material. With such response our continued endeavor to place integrated, well rounded human beings through academics shall go on and also create more and more value based citizens adding to the social harmony and wellbeing.
