(Continued from last issue…..)
- The feud and party spirit has reached such abnormal proportions, that a scheme was laid to carry her bodily along with the cot on which she lay, and molest her. This time, the bulls that were fastened, perceiving the intention of the mischief mongers, got loose by breaking the ropes and chased the culprits and the situation was averted. All the while she lay awake and was in the know of what they were conspiring and also the way as to how it is to be averted.
- On another occasion a man belonging to the other party, with a dagger in hand rushed towards her with the malicious intention of stabbing her. But as fate would have it, he slipped in a small bundle while leaping over the irrigation channel and fell down. fracturing his ankle just four feet away from her and Mother coolly reached home as if nothing had happened.
- One day as she was going out in the fields, she was moving towards a huge cobra with its hood spread wide (ready to attack) a blind she buffalo grazing in the fields ran to her rescue from a distance and pushed it away from her path with her horns and prevented her from stepping on the snake. It shows Mother’s absolute control over the minds of animals too.
- A theft occurred in her house and valuables were stolen. The very same men who stole them, with the dust still on their feet, arrived when an alarm was given afterwards, in the guise of gentlemen and encouraged her to lodge a police complaint. (The very theft was done, it seems, to know if a report will be made or not). She never did so and coolly said that it was She who gives anyone anything! The thieves also were her sons and had taken what their due was. Even till now, it is said the gold and silver lay buried and were never dug out.
- A Harijan, ‘Manthrai’ by name, was engaged as a servant. He accepted the job only to verify if all the scandal spoken of her was true. He was the most dreaded ruffian. But he gradually and thoroughly changed that he could perceive her presence everywhere and anywhere and got cognizance of her Divinity. His own death was foreseen by her and he, in turn informed another Reddy Chinna Subbaiah not to leave Mother as she was a Divine Being.
- With similar motives of examining and watching over her Subbaiah gained admission and he also became an earnest child and devotee of Mother. It fell to his lot, to see Mother playing with a brilliant white snake that sent out a great fragrance.
- Among the trials made to do away with her is one when a male and another female took her in a boat in a canal and after reaching a secluded spot got down. They had brought with them sweets prepared – one poisoned and another safe in two different bundles. They did so in order not to arouse suspicion in Mother, who they expected would take it as a jolly trip. But in serving, it so happened that the poisoned sweet was consumed by the Man and he, on realizing the error, fled away leaving her there. At about midnight, she found a leaky boat going that way and on request, Mother was taken aboard. But, as fate would have it, a sudden tempest razed when the boat turned upside down in one stroke and with another blast regained its former position and all the crew and occupants were safe. (This incident is the inspiration for the song of Raju “ooge ooge oti padavaku aadhaaramevaramma…..”
- It is no exaggeration but a fact that Mother was made to wear gunnies while inside and allowed to wear coarse cloth while going out. Till a year prior to our going, Mother was allowed to have a single saree, half of which she would wrap around her waist and wash the other half and there are several relatives who bear witness to it. Later she was having sarees of finer count of Venkatagiri make and is seen now in silk ones. But Mother never bothered.
- Mother was purposefully deputed along with other labor for transplanting and harvesting in rice fields.
- When nothing was made available, she, under the disguise of a beggar, even begged from door to door in order to fend for her young ones.
- Under the pretext of offering to God, her luxurious hair was cut by her kin..
The above instances are given just to show that Mother always lives in the eternal now and was fully conscious of the happenings in its relation to the whole. She is the universal consciousness present both in animate and inanimate comprising birds and animals. But for this, the animals such as the oxen and buffalos spoken above could not have interfered on her behalf. That she takes possession of souls and consciousness of others is proved in the instances of Rickshaw man and of the intended murder. That she is aware of all is shown in the instances of theft and the services of Manthrai and Subbaiah. That she is the guide of destiny or fate in stabbing attempt – was omniscient and foretelling the delivery of her control over physical form at the time of delivery and stirring the soup and chloroform being ineffective. That she can bestow grace in the cases of Moses and Jacob that she is omnipresent in the case of her communication with them in other countries. That she allows her physical form to be seen everywhere as in the case of Manthrai who perceived her presence even on the plow while plowing in the fields. That everything happens according to plan and nothing rests with us in the case of a leaky boat and her poisoning.
Only one or two instances are taken to show that she is Avatar (incarnation) having all the attributes stated in my introduction. Several other instances that make one believe likewise will be enumerated hereafter in the coming chapters. This is just to show that Mother is not an ordinary soul, that has attained perfection by severe austerities performed / learnt at the feet of a master, but a Manifestation possessing all ‘Vibhutis’ (Power) from her very birth. She never allowed others to suspect at least of her Divinity but on the other hand encouraged them in their ignorance and received all the fruits of their inflictions on herself and suffered the kind of suffering no other mortal body could bear and survive. With these and similar incidents, we come to her 34th year, the date which she fixed as early as 1949, when she had been to Rajamma garu, under the pretext of initiation, which, practically she never had.
